Beard oils and balms are basic beard grooming products which are perfectly complementary but that can also be used independently for different purposes. As a quick explanation, they are both skin and hair moisturizers with the main difference that the balm serves also as a styling product.
Here at Golden Beards we use our different oils as ingredients to make the balm, so you can get the best from both. Let’s get a bit into each of them and explain why they are so beneficial and we should use them in our daily beard care routine. We will talk from our own experience and research when creating our products. This week, we will talk about what our oils are made of and how they can help your beard and skin be strong and healthy.
To make our organic oils we use Argan oil, jojoba oil, apricot oil and almond oil as carrier oils and different kind of essential oils depending on the final product. Carrier oils, also known as base oils, are used to dilute the strong essential oils and make them safe to apply on the hair and skin. They also help stop the essential oils from evaporating too quickly.
The essential oils are essential in the sense that they carry the “essence of” a plant’s fragrance. As the use of the beard oil should be daily, it is really important that all ingredients used in the final mix are of the best quality and always organic. Remember it’s your beard and skin you are taking care of here, there should be no “cutting corners”! And you may be wondering (or maybe not), why do you use those specific carrier oils? Well, here we are to tell you all about them! The Argan Oil is a plant oil extracted from the kernels of the Argan tree, grown in Morocco. It acts as a moisturizer to hydrate and soften the skin. Its high content of Vitamin E and fatty acids makes it perfect to repair damaged skin, giving nutrients that prevent further dryness and irritation.
It is also a natural hair conditioner, making your beard softer, silkier and shinier. The Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax extracted from the nut of an indigenous southwestern American plant. Besides also being a moisturizer, it also controls oily skin. Keeping it at perfect levels of sebum. It is the perfect replacement for animal fat and we are all about that here! It does also contain Vitamin E and Vitamin B complex. The Almond Oil is extracted from raw edible almonds. It contains generous amounts of fatty acids, Vitamin E, potassium, proteins and zinc.
All these are perfect for a healthy beard growth! It does also repair the skin under your beard and gets rid of split ends of your beard hair. And if all these wasn’t enough, it treats dandruff. Not bad at all! The Apricot Oil is obtained by cold pressing and refining the dried kernels of the apricot fruit. Contains Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and fatty acids (oleic and linoleic). Perfect for dry and sensitive skin and beard.
The main use of the beard oils is to replace the oils we lose after a good beard wash, so that’s why it is really important to use good oils! First, choose your preferred scent of oil (if you haven’t yet, make sure to take a look at ours in the Golden Beards website!). Using the pipette, place from 3 to 14 drops of beard oil (depending on your beard length) in the palm of your hand and rub it along your hands. Massage your beard from the skin upwards, making sure you distribute it all around your beard and skin. For an even better finish, we recommend using a boar bristle beard comb to tidy up and distribute perfectly all the oil in your beard.
And well, you are ready for the day! But beware if you use any of the Golden Beards organic oils, we’ve heard that they can be extremely addictive and be used more than once every day!
